Fan conventions and expos are a fairly common occurrence these days. At least they are in the civilized parts of the world, but Timmins? Since when is there a comic book and sci-fi convention in Timmins?
Apparently, since last year! And it’s happening again this year… in a couple weeks!

The con will run at the McIntyre Arena, concurrent with the annual Sportsman Show, April 21-23 (thus gathering sporty-outdoor types and nerds in one place in what is surely an experiment in Darwinian theory). While last year boasted Lou Ferrigno as its biggest draw, this year you can meet John Schneider (from The Dukes of Hazzard and Smallville fame) alongside the General Lee.
The 501st Canadian Garrison will also be in attendance, likely a move designed to draw attention to the Empire’s flagging public support. Sure, everyone loves the rebels, but can they provide a viable economic formula for prosperity for the Republic? I’ll believe it when I see it.
As well, a couple of actresses from Star Wars: The Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will be on hand to sign autographs, take photos with fans, and fuel fanboy fantasies for years to come.
If any local geeks are going to go, take some pics and share them here! I won’t be there, but I may be attending our Ottawa ComicCon. If I do, let me know if you want me to snag surreptitious pics of Patrick Stewart in the men’s room.

Yes, you’re having a convention in two weeks’ time. You should go! You can get fishing lures at the same time!
Say, here’s an interesting tidbit about site traffic for you, Antikas. This article shows up as the number 3 result on Google when searching for “Northern Ontario Expo”. Notably absent is an actual dedicated site for the expo so someone’s obviously not on the ball in the planning department.
Talk up the article and the expo with geeks on the street and you might drive up traffic.
Just sayin’.
